When it comes to seeing results in fitness, two big factors are sustainability and adherence. Unfortunately, these simple factors are easier said than done. Let’s face it we live in a go-go-go world and there are a million things that can throw us off of our plan.

We all have the same struggles … busy schedules, kids, work, and much more. I understand this more than anyone, so I decided to share a five tips to increase adherence and consistency. 

Keep it SIMPLE!

Stay away from the crazy diets and super long workouts … Create clear and easy steps that will help you with your short- and long-term goals. Complexity adds more steps and can distract from the goal in front of us. Simplicity is your key to seeing progress!

 Focus on Lifestyle Adjustments

Often times, a nutrition plan can be overwhelming … change your focus to small things like portion sizes, quitting fast-food, or eating every protein every couple of hours. This simplifies the plan and alleviates some of the stress that goes along with “dieting”. Lifestyle change also creates long term success that goes beyond the goal at hand.

Plan Ahead

Create a plan for your day ahead of time. Life will throw us the occasional curve ball, but doing things like planning your workout routine, or prepping your food ahead of time can take some of the panic out of what life throws at you.

When planning your day, take every detail into consideration like food or workouts … even possibly your gym clothes, and shower supplies incase your workout schedule moves because of something unforeseen.

Recruit an Accountability Partner

Getting to the gym and keeping your hand out of the cookie jar is a lot easier when you have a friend working in the same direction as you! Check on each other regularly and nclude each other in your planning … even add in some friendly competition based on your goals.

 There’s no better way to make sure that you make it to the gym than a good friend blowing up your phone!

Join a Challenge

Challenges are great for many of the same reasons as having an accountability partner, just multiplied! Most challenges like the S2 Operation Transformation Challenge help create a group of people with a common goal, nutrition guidance and workout plans. Operation Transformation has a private Facebook group and other prizes that are sure to give you a kick in motivation.

Seeing consistent progress is not about being perfect … it’s about consistently executing on the basics and finding what works for YOU! If you struggle with seeing the results year after year these 5 basic steps will make all the difference!
